We're delivering a facade refurbishment and 2-storey rooftop extension for Lee Garden One, a 1990s luxury shopping centre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Part of client Hysan’s wider regeneration plans for the area, our design seeks to break down the massing and respond to the context of smaller buildings opposite the site.

Our facade concept focuses on materiality and texture, with a fairly neutral palette to complement individual brand facades. Locally sourced stone cladding along with copper-coloured highlights and decorative mesh ‘lattice veils’ provide visual interest across the facade, particularly at the ground level along Lan Fong Road. By activating this elevation with new human-scale details, we’re enhancing the pedestrian experience and uplifting a street which has historically been viewed as a service road.

The rooftop extension unlocks new indoor/outdoor F&B space, creating a hospitality destination for the city and uplifting the offer of the overall shopping centre. The rooftop was previously closed off to the public, only accessible for maintenance purposes. Our ‘glass box’ design opens up the roof for the first time and acts like a beacon on top of the shopping floors, bringing natural light into the mall and increasing lettable space. A green wall and integrated lighting further enhance the experience, creating a welcoming social space for people to enjoy from day to night.
