Set over four hectares, this luxury wellness resort is one of the largest developments on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai. Just 200m west across the water from Macau, Hengqin is undergoing rapid development, and is set to be China’s newest leisure and wellness destination.
Serensia Woods – which comprises a hotel, spa, treatment centre, villas and serviced apartments – is at the forefront of this offering. Our architecture draws on the concept of an oasis of nature, with the buildings arranged in and around a lush garden, including a crescent-shaped spa building that sits at the heart of the site and embraces the central swimming pool. The buildings range in size from single-storey spa ‘huts’ to a 14-storey hotel, and are clad in varying combinations of metal, terracotta, timber and stone.
The interiors, which Make also designed, prioritise privacy, comfort, greenery and natural materials. Tailored to their specific building, they're united by several distinct features, drawing on the architecture's gridded facades, cladding materials and curved elements to provide a holistic experience that connects guests to the beautiful landscape outside.
