The building has a striking honeycomb façade which is currently being installed. Formed from 1521 hexagonal panels, some in anodised aluminium, others glazed that make up a 3m by 3m grid. The panels have a shimmering appearance created by different depths of gloss applied to the same base colour of aluminium, this will change the appearance of the building according to the time of day, weather and seasons.
The BREEAM Excellent 3 Arena Central is at the heart of the wider Arena Central masterplan, located behind the old Midland Bank at 301 Broad Street which itself is undergoing redevelopment to convert it into a city centre base for the University of Birmingham. A new plaza, Bank Court will be situated between the two buildings and provide new public realm to the centre of the masterplan, connecting Broad Street down to Holliday Street and The Mailbox.
