The elegant tower contains one, two and three-bed apartments, plus two commercial office floors and a retail space on the ground floor. Make has maximised the stepped podium rooftops to provide residents with two levels of amenities that promote health and wellbeing, including a lap pool, outdoor dining spaces, a yoga terrace and landscaped gardens.
Full-height glazed terracotta blades in a vertical cruciform define four quadrants of the building and curate apartment views. The blades are also an integral part of the sustainability strategy, controlling daylight and wind exposure, along with shading and natural ventilation, while their earthy, terracotta colour visually grounds the building within its local context, taking a cue from existing brick residential buildings nearby.
Each corner features dual-aspect balconies on every level with sweeping views across Sydney’s skyline, the mountains to the west and the coastline to the east. The apartments also benefit from cross-ventilation and abundant natural light, while architectural features, such as horizontal fins on the northern elevation and generous glazing on the southern elevation, respond to weather conditions and control solar exposure.
Following Make’s winning bid to design and deliver the nearby Anderson Street project for Heworth Holdings Group, the planning approval for The Bryson marks another milestone for the studio in Chatswood. Both projects will champion sustainability and are set to achieve a minimum 5 Star Green Star rating. They will also have excellent links to public transport, cycle routes and the local area, with the Chatswood Chase shopping centre (and its Make-designed interior refurbishment) just a short walk away.
Simon Lincoln, Asia Pacific Director at Make, says, “With the scheme’s distinctive character, The Bryson will be a great addition to the Chatswood skyline and deliver beautiful living spaces, prioritising wellbeing for residents with a real focus on space and amenity.”
CEO of Goldfields, Lachlan Thompson, said: “Sydney’s Lower North Shore has become one of the most sought-after places to live and work in the region and we are thrilled with the carefully considered design of The Bryson that will add to the evolution of Chatswood.”
