Our masterplan for Lujiazui Taikoo Yuan in Shanghai introduces 13 residential towers, two commercial office buildings, various retail offerings and heavily planted public spaces to create a thriving riverside community. We’re connecting the site and the city beyond to the Huangpu River, as well as the famous Bund pedestrian and cycle path, with new pedestrian links and public spaces that activate the area for locals and visitors alike.
Three key public spaces permeate the site: a commercial plaza, a retail street, and a green corridor running north– south through the centre of the site. All are connected via five link bridges to the Bund, and complement the slender residential towers and the riverside context, mediating density and creating visual corridors from the existing communities to the water. The public realm provides spaces away from the roads where people can socialise, relax and play, all within reach of the waterfront.
At the podium level, we’ve integrated retail precincts and landscaped skybridges that will enable pedestrian wayfinding through the site, creating spaces for people to meet and linger. Above the podiums, we’ve positioned each building to maximise elevated panoramic views across the river. The new neighbourhood also features a series of private gardens for residents, providing access to nature while enhancing sightlines to the water.
